Harry Maguire Backing Gives Marcus Rashford Fresh Manchester United Route

Harry Maguire has publicly left the door open for Marcus Rashford to return to Manchester United, adding a senior dressing-room voice to one of the club’s most delicate summer decisions.

The Sun reported that Maguire would welcome Rashford back at Old Trafford after the forward’s Barcelona loan spell.

The same report states that Barcelona have opted against activating their £26million purchase option, leaving Rashford’s future unresolved.

That matters because this is no longer a clean exit file.

Rashford has not played for United since December 2024, but his Barcelona form and England involvement have kept his market value alive.

Now Michael Carrick has to decide whether that value is best used in the market or inside his own squad.

Maguire Support Sharpens Rashford Decision

United’s position is complicated.

Rashford’s loan spell gave him rhythm away from Old Trafford, but it did not deliver a permanent Barcelona move.

beIN SPORTS previously reported that Carrick had refused to rule out Rashford returning once his loan ended.

Maguire’s intervention now adds a dressing-room layer.

ReadManUtd has already examined what Rashford could offer United if he returns. The question remains less about talent and more about trust, standards and role clarity.

If no permanent buyer meets United’s terms, Carrick must decide whether Rashford’s pace, direct running and left-sided threat are worth reintegrating.

For Rashford, the message is just as clear.

A return would require buy-in, immediate standards and acceptance of a defined role.

That is why Maguire’s backing matters.

It does not settle Rashford’s future. It shows the door has not been slammed shut from inside the United dressing room.

For Carrick, that keeps one awkward but potentially useful option alive.
