Manchester United are looking for another goalkeeper to compete with Senne Lammens, with San Lorenzo’s Orlando Gill emerging as a potential target.
The Manchester Evening News reports United are in the market for a goalkeeper after three options were set to leave this summer. Gill is among the names under consideration after impressing for Paraguay at the World Cup.
The 26-year-old has a release clause worth around £5.2m, according to reports from Argentina carried by the MEN. Gill has also confirmed he has a clause in his contract, but said there has not been a formal offer yet.
“I can’t say yes or no,” Gill said. “They told me there is interest, but not a formal offer.”
ReadManUtd recently covered Senne Lammens’ difficult World Cup debut for Belgium, and United now appear to want stronger competition around him before the new season.
Gill Would Be A Low-Cost Goalkeeper Option
Gill’s World Cup performances have raised his profile quickly.
The Paraguay international was named player of the match against Germany and France, while he also saved two penalties in the shootout win over Germany. MEN reports he has kept 29 clean sheets in 59 appearances for San Lorenzo.
His release clause makes the situation interesting. A £5.2m deal would sit well below the usual Premier League market, especially for a goalkeeper with recent tournament exposure.
United still have to decide how much pressure they want around Lammens. The Belgian remains part of Michael Carrick’s plans, but his error against Spain showed why competition matters.
ReadManUtd has also covered United’s wider transfer work after pulling back from the Ederson deal, and goalkeeper depth now looks like another area to watch.
Gill would not arrive as a guaranteed No.1. He would arrive as a challenger, and at that price, United may see the risk as manageable.
