Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have reached the World Cup semi-finals after England beat Norway 2-1 following extra time in Miami.
Neither Manchester United player featured during the quarter-final, but both joined England’s celebrations at full-time.
Norway took the lead through Andreas Schjelderup after 36 minutes. Jude Bellingham equalised before half-time with his fifth goal of the tournament.
Thomas Tuchel’s side then needed extra time after both teams had goals disallowed.
Bellingham scored the winner less than three minutes after the restart. He reacted quickest after Ørjan Nyland parried Morgan Rogers’ long-range effort.
England protected their advantage to secure a 2-1 quarter-final victory and a place in the last four.
United trio set for semi-final meeting
England will now face Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday, creating a possible reunion with Lisandro Martínez.
Martínez played the full 120 minutes as Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1. At least one United player will therefore reach the World Cup final.
Rashford and Mainoo had been waiting to learn whether they would start against Norway, with ReadManUtd covering Tuchel’s selection decision before the quarter-final.
Their latest lack of minutes will remain a talking point for Michael Carrick. However, both players are still involved at the closing stage of the tournament.
Rashford previously reached the World Cup semi-finals with England in 2018. Mainoo is now preparing for the biggest international match of his career.
