Bruno Fernandes has been named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year after a standout 2025/26 campaign with Manchester United.
The United captain played a huge part in the club’s return to the Champions League, producing nine goals and a league record 21 assists. That saw him move past the previous Premier League mark shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
It is also the first time Fernandes has won the PFA award, and he becomes the first United player to receive it since Wayne Rooney in the 2009/10 season.
Bruno Fernandes recognised by his fellow players
Winning the award means a little more to Fernandes because the vote came from the players he faces every week.
‘It is obviously a very proud moment. They are the ones you go on the pitch against and it’s probably not easy to vote for someone you play against, so it is a very good moment,’ Fernandes said.
The award adds to an impressive collection of individual honours for Fernandes. He was named the FWA Footballer of the Year in May and also picked up Manchester United’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a fifth time.
Fernandes is the 12th different Red to win the prize, with the club now two wins clear of Liverpool at the top of the list.
For Fernandes, though, the individual recognition is still tied closely to the club.
‘It’s always nice to see the name of the club in these kinds of awards, and obviously the players stand out with the club behind them. That’s very important for us.’
After carrying much of United’s creative workload last season, Bruno Fernandes now has another major personal award to his name.
