Youri Tielemans has received a big endorsement from former Aston Villa team-mate John McGinn, who believes Manchester United have signed a player with almost everything needed to succeed at the highest level.
Youri Tielemans left Aston Villa this summer to join Manchester United, becoming an important part of Michael Carrick’s midfield plans. While there has already been plenty of discussion about what he can offer United on the pitch, McGinn’s assessment gives another glimpse into the character behind the player.
Speaking on The Overlap, the Villa captain had nothing but praise for his former team-mate.
McGinn full of praise for Youri Tielemans
“Unbelievable professional, work rate, quality. Just an all-around good guy, good teammate, but he’s got quality as well.
“He can find a pass, he can score a brilliant goal. I’m talking about the complete player here. He’s a top player and he’s so determined to win.”
That last quality could be particularly important at Old Trafford. Manchester United are trying to build on last season’s third-place finish, and Carrick will need players who can handle the pressure that comes with playing for the club.
Youri Tielemans’s technical ability, passing, goalscoring and attitude all stood out during his time at Villa, and United will now be hoping those qualities carry over to Manchester.
Youri Tielemans has already had the chance to settle into his new surroundings and establish himself among United’s midfield options. With Carlos Baleba and Andrey Santos also arriving, competition for places is strong, while Kobbie Mainoo is already one of Carrick’s first names in the midfield from last season.
McGinn was full of praise for the Manchester United midfielder. Now Tielemans has to show the same in a United shirt.
