Michael Carrick has provided an update on two of Manchester United’s promising academy players, with JJ Gabriel continuing to train with the first team and Harry Amass also catching the manager’s eye during pre-season.
Both youngsters are part of a growing group of young players trying to work their way into Carrick’s senior plans. For now, the United boss is happy with how both are progressing.
Carrick praises JJ Gabriel’s progress
Gabriel is one of the academy players attracting plenty of attention, and Carrick says the teenager has already spent a good amount of time around the first team.
“JJ is one of the boys. He’s obviously got a really big talent. He’s trained with us quite a bit. He’s getting experience all the time. He’s physically adapting to each step that he makes, and just continuing his development,” Carrick said.
JJ Gabriel is still adapting to the demands of senior football, and every training session with the first team gives him another opportunity to learn.
Amass impresses during pre-season
Amass is another academy player whose future remains uncertain, but Michael Carrick was keen to point out the positives.
“I’ve been really pleased with Harry. I think he had a really good season that didn’t finish so good with the injury, but it’s been great to have him around pre-season. He’s done really well. So, let’s see what happens.”
The left-back has returned from injury and his future at Manchester United has largely been uncertain.
For Gabriel, the next step is continuing to develop physically and gaining more senior experience. Amass, meanwhile, will hope his strong pre-season can give him a clearer route into the first team and a quick resolution of his Manchester United career.
