Michael Carrick wants forward to do a little more after Man Utd stay

Michael Carrick has made it clear that Joshua Zirkzee remains part of his plans at Manchester United after the forward stayed at the club beyond the summer transfer window.

Joshua Zirkzee had been linked with a move away from Manchester United during the window, but no deal was completed. That leaves the Dutchman at Old Trafford, where he now has another opportunity to convince Michael Carrick that he can make an impact.

The United boss appears to have plenty of faith in the striker’s ability. Carrick insists he has already seen enough from Zirkzee in training and in his time around the squad to believe there is more to come.

Carrick wants Joshua Zirkzee to do more

“I believe in Zirkzee. I’m telling you, Josh can do some really top things,” Carrick said.

The manager also wants to see those moments become more regular.

“I’ve seen it myself and I’m looking forward to him doing that a little bit more.”

That will be the challenge for Zirkzee over the coming months. Michael Carrick clearly sees qualities in the 24-year-old, despite the forward being linked with a move away from Old Trafford throughout the summer.

Rather than starting another spell at a new club, he will remain at United and have the chance to work under Carrick.

Joshua Zirkzee impressed during the pre-season but hasn’t seen any action since the Premier League started. He started both Hull and Ipswich games on the bench. With Manchester United not signing an attacker, Zirkzee may see a central role in the United squad as Michael Carrick prepares for a long season.
