- Man Utd monitoring Lewis Hall
- Newcastle United star ‘open’ to move
- Luke Shaw eventually needs replacing
Signing a long-term Luke Shaw replacement should be on Manchester United‘s agenda, and the transfer chiefs have their eye on Lewis Hall. The Newcastle United left-back is seemingly ready to make a move this summer.
According to Alex Crook of talkSPORT, Hall is “open” to leaving Newcastle and the Reds are seeking a new left-back. The club’s sporting director, Jason Wilcox, is a “big admirer” of the England international.
Hall has been one of the Magpies’ most important players this season but recently lost his place in Eddie Howe’s team. The manager put it down to tactics but it certainly frustrated the former Chelsea youngster.

Man Utd handed Lewis Hall boost
Hall has since returned to Howe’s starting lineup and performed well in Newcastle’s 3-1 win over West Ham United on Sunday. Before that game, he opened up on being dropped and admitted he wasn’t happy:
“I think any player never wants to be on the bench. I think it goes without saying I wasn’t best pleased. Like I said, everyone goes through their moments in football. It’s just about how you deal with them. I was back in the team today, so I was happy.”
Hall looks certain to be on the plane with England for the World Cup but he might not be a starter. Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly seems to be the favourite to start at left-back this summer.
Factors like this could help United if they decide to pursue. But it might not be ideal for Shaw who has played every single Premier League game this season.
Shaw has been back to his best and is flourishing under Michael Carrick. He was on the scoresheet in Sunday’s 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest.
That said, at 30, he will need replacing sooner rather than later and Hall fits the bill. The 21-year-old possesses a similar profile: a natural modern fullback with a burst of pace and superb ball-carrying.
An ideal Shaw heir
Hall has made 46 appearances across competitions this season, posting one goal and two assists. He earned major plaudits for keeping Lamine Yamal quiet in Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against Barcelona in March.
Wayne Rooney hailed Hall after that game, calling him “brilliant.” It feels as though Wilcox shares that view and could be keen to bring him to Old Trafford.
There’s no word on how much the Magpies may demand for the England international. He joined the club from Chelsea for £28m in July 2024 and has three years on his contract.
