Manchester United are set to miss out on Crysencio Summerville after Al Hilal agreed a £68million deal with West Ham United for the winger.
Summerville is expected to undergo a medical before signing a long-term contract with the Saudi Pro League club. The transfer has not yet been officially announced.
Standard Sport reports that Manchester United explored the conditions of a possible move earlier this summer. Roma also submitted several offers before Al Hilal agreed a significantly larger package.
The Netherlands international scored five Premier League goals last season. He also registered two goals and two assists during the World Cup before Morocco eliminated the Netherlands on penalties.
Manchester United winger plans depend on Rashford
Summerville had emerged as a possible left-wing addition for Michael Carrick. His pace and ability to operate from either flank would have given United another direct attacking option.
However, United did not advance their interest while Marcus Rashford’s future remained unresolved. ReadManUtd previously reported that the club had considered Summerville as a potential Rashford replacement.
Rashford is expected to return for pre-season after Barcelona declined to make his loan permanent. Carrick wants to assess the academy graduate before deciding whether another left-sided attacker is required.
United have also monitored Iliman Ndiaye and recently made an enquiry for Crystal Palace winger Ismaïla Sarr. Any attacking arrival may still depend on Rashford or Jadon Sancho leaving Old Trafford.
Summerville’s proposed move removes one of United’s leading options from the market. Al Hilal’s £68million agreement also places the transfer well above the level United were likely to consider.
United must now decide whether to reintegrate Rashford or move quickly for an alternative winger.
