Done Deal: Hull sign United striker

Hull City have confirmed the signing of Manchester United striker Will Keane for an undisclosed fee.

Keane becomes the third man to sign for the Tigers before the close of the transfer window, as caretaker manager Mike Phelan looks to add depth to his side after starting the season with just 14 fit senior players.

The move sees the 23-year-old from Stockport reunited with Phelan, who was Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager during the Scotsman’s final years in charge at Old Trafford.

Keane made his United debut in December 2011 as a late substitute in the Reds’ 3-2 Premier League defeat against Blackburn Rovers and was initially tipped for big things at the Theatre of Dreams due to his prolific scoring form at youth and reserve level.

But his development was stunted when he suffered a knee ligament injury while on international duty with the England under-19s in May 2012, which kept him out of the entire following season.

He never really returned to the same heights after the injury, being sent out on loan to four different Championship sides – Wigan, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday and spent the first half of last season with Preston North End.

After scoring twice in 22 appearances at Deepdale, Keane was recalled by former United manager Louis van Gaal in January due to a lack of options up top and he went on to make two appearances under the Dutchman at the tail end of the season.
