- Manchester United want to sign Senesi
- Club have held talks with Bournemouth star’s agent
- Chelsea and Tottenham also interested
Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Marcos Senesi’s agents regarding a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. There are three clubs looking to sign the Argentine, who is set to become a free agent.
According to Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto, United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have all been in contact with Senesi’s representatives. His current deal with Bournemouth expires in June and he’s expected to leave the Vitality Stadium.
Senesi has been a mainstay in Andoni Iraola’s side this season, appearing 33 times across competitions. He is regarded as one of the most reliable centre-backs in the top-flight.
Manchester United Eye Senesi
Senesi is said to be about to “choose his team” and it appears it will be one of United, Chelsea or Spurs. Other interested clubs are “much further away.”
While a new centre-back wouldn’t appear to be a priority, there are many reasons to swoop for the Argentine on a free. Not least Matthijs de Ligt’s injury struggles, having not appeared for the club since December.
Harry Maguire has extended his contract, but at 33, he will eventually need replacing. Senesi is 28, Premier League proven, and a left-footed central defender.
United were linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, but the German penned a new deal with the Bundesliga club. INEOS seem keen to strengthen the defence with a left-footed centre-back, and the chance to sign Senesi is ideal.
A Must Have
Senesi might not be a starter should he arrive at United but he’d be a welcome addition to the squad. Lisandro Martinez has returned to training after a spell out with a calf problem and his fitness is a concern given he’s only made 15 appearances this season.
With Champions League football looking likely next season it’s vital that Michael Carrick has enough depth in his squad. The English coach is in pole position to land the Old Trafford job permanently.
A new left-footed centre-back, left winger and two central midfielders should be on INEOS’ agenda. Signing Senesi on a free ensures there are funds to battle for some of the most highly regarded but expensive midfielders in Europe.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson seems to be the top target, although signs point towards him preferring a move to Manchester City. The English midfielder could cost over £100m, which highlights the need to be clever when conducting business.
