  • Red Devils are keen on midfield overhaul

Manchester United are in the market for a central midfielder. Many names, including Elliot Anderson, Baleba and Amadou Onana have been mentioned lately.

The latest name on the list is Alex Scott of Bournemouth, per Paul O’Keefe. It’s claimed that United hold a “firm interest” in the Bournemouth midfielder and have tracked him for a while.

Scott has caught the eye throughout the season and been a key man in Andoni Iraola’s midfield. He’s made 32 league appearances, posting three goals and one assist.

Manchester United Target Scott Stars in Arsenal Win

Scott just proved why he belongs on their shortlist with a brilliant outing to derail Arsenal’s title hopes.  The Bournemouth star delivered a man-of-the-match display at the Emirates on Saturday, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory.

For United’s scouts watching, it was a timely reminder of the 22-year-old’s quality. The Red Devils are outlining plans to rebuild their midfield after the season. Casemiro is set to depart at the end of his contract in June, ending his four-year spell in Manchester. Uncertainty also remains around Manuel Ugarte amid his limited playing time under Michael Carrick.

That leaves room for fresh faces and Scott could be part of their summer midfield overhaul. He will have two years left on his contract this summer.

Scott Announces Himself on Big Stage

Bournemouth’s decisive goal arrived in the 74th minute at the Emirates. Evanilson flicked David Brooks’ pass into the path of Scott, who advanced into the area before finishing into the roof of the net. It was his third goal of the season.

The numbers back up the impact. Scott has started 29 of Bournemouth’s 32 Premier League games this term, playing a total of 2,410 minutes. He has three goals and one assist, with an expected goals figure of 3.70.

Defensively, he averages 1.6 tackles and 1.0 interceptions per game, while winning 56% of his duels. His passing accuracy sits at 84%, with 78% accuracy in the opposition half. These are the numbers of a well-rounded, Premier League‑ready midfielder.

Why United are tracking Alex Scott

Scott joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in the summer of 2023 and has since registered six goals and five assists in 84 appearances for the Cherries. His strong club form earned him a first England call-up for November’s international break, though he did not come off the bench in the 2-0 win over Albania. That taste of senior international football will only fuel his ambition.

For Manchester United, the appeal is clear. At 22, Scott is young enough to develop further but experienced enough to contribute immediately. He is under contract at Bournemouth until the summer of 2028, putting Bournemouth in command of the negotiations.

But with Casemiro’s wages off the books and Ugarte potentially making a move away, United have both the need and the financial room to make a serious move. Scott’s display against Arsenal was a statement. Now it is over to Old Trafford to decide whether to act.
