Former No. 9 tells Man Utd to make move for Nigerian International

Louis Saha wants Manchester United to make one big move before the summer transfer window closes.

The former United striker believes Victor Osimhen is exactly the sort of centre-forward Michael Carrick’s side are missing. He also claims the Galatasaray striker is a United supporter and would be keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United do have options in the number nine position. Joshua Zirkzee can play there, while Matheus Cunha has also been used through the middle. The problem, as Saha sees it, is that neither is a natural striker.

There are also still questions around Zirkzee’s future, making the position even less certain.

Saha believes Osimhen is made for Man Utd

Saha’s support for the move goes beyond simply wanting United to sign another goalscorer.

“I know for a fact that Victor Osimhen is a Manchester United fan.”

He believes that connection could make a difference if United decide to make a late push.

“He loves Man United,” Saha said as quoted by Metro.

Saha said he has seen how much the club means to Victor Osimhen and thinks the striker understands the impact he could make in Carrick’s side.

“I have seen it in his eyes, the impact the club has on him, and he sees the impact he could have on this team.”

The qualities Saha wants are pretty obvious. United need someone who doesn’t need endless touches to become dangerous.

“He is like Erling Haaland.”

“He doesn’t need to see the ball very often to score goals.”

That is where Saha believes Victor Osimhen could change United’s attack. The striker’s movement and instinct around the box would give the team a different option from what they currently have.

“If he is not getting the chances he needs, he will demand them.”

Saha then gave his verdict.

“This is the type of player United need to sign.”

Osimhen’s record certainly backs up that argument. He has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli and has added another 64 goals in 77 games for Galatasaray.

Saha wants healthy competition at United

Saha also believes Manchester United shouldn’t be worried about having several strikers competing for one position.

“We had four strikers when I played for Manchester United.”

He pointed out that he had a different style to Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alan Smith and Carlos Tevez, yet they were able to coexist because the manager created competition within the squad.

“I didn’t have the same style of play as Ruud van Nistelrooy or Alan Smith or Carlos Tevez but we managed to find our own separate ways because the manager was good enough to let us compete in a healthy way.”

That is something Saha would like to see again.

“That’s what United need and Osimhen would give them that and score at least 15 or 20 goals a season and provide goals for others to shine too. That’s the kind of profile of player United need to sign.”

United’s opening two games have only strengthened the debate around their striker options. They failed to score at Hull City before finding the net plenty of times against Ipswich, while Carrick has had to work with different combinations in attack.

Osimhen would be an expensive and ambitious move this late in the window, but Saha clearly sees it as worthwhile.

For Manchester United, the question is whether they agree with Saha on Victor Osimhen.
