Former Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell admits he was hoping to see a few more new faces arrive at Old Trafford during the summer, although he believes the club’s squad should be strong enough until January.
Manchester United focused heavily on rebuilding their midfield during the window, but there was no late rush for more additions despite areas of the squad still raising questions.
Fraizer Campbell feels that is actually a positive sign compared with previous years, when United may have reacted by spending heavily on a player who was not necessarily part of their original plans.
Manchester United always want more
“We just always want more, don’t we? Never quite happy with rebuilding the midfield.
“It’s one of those things. I think years gone by, United would have gone out and panicked at this stage and spent a fortune, rightly or wrongly, on a player they didn’t really want,” Campbell said while talking to BBC.
The former striker still admits there was some frustration when no further players came through the door.
“In a sense it’s positive, but It’s frustrating when you hoped to see another few faces coming through the door, but we didn’t see any.”
Despite that, Fraizer Campbell has high expectations for the season. He believes finishing in the top three would be an excellent outcome, while a top-four finish should be the minimum target.
“Top three would be fantastic for us, top four is the bare minimum. With that in mind, the squad should be OK to get us until at least January.”
Campbell is also interested to see what Michael Carrick can get from the group and feels there is already a positive mood around United.
