Manchester United News & Talking Points: Bruno, JJ Gabriel, Dorgu and More

There is plenty happening around Manchester United despite the international break, with Bruno Fernandes’ fitness becoming an increasing concern and the situation surrounding JJ Gabriel taking another turn.

Manchester United have also completed another academy signing from Liverpool, while Patrick Dorgu has suffered an injury setback with Denmark. Away from Carrington, Manchester City’s financial case has also prompted a fresh response from the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust.

Here are the latest Manchester United news & talking points.

Mick Brown questions JJ Gabriel situation

Former Manchester United assistant and scout Mick Brown believes the club may be better off without JJ Gabriel. In our full JJ Gabriel report, Brown questioned whether the teenager’s situation has caused problems within the academy dressing room.

Brown said he had watched JJ Gabriel closely recently and felt the youngster did not appear to receive the same reaction from teammates when scoring as other academy players. He acknowledged that he could be reading too much into it, while reports continue to claim Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring Gabriel.

MUST calls for severe City punishment

The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust has called for severe sanctions against Manchester City following reports that City were found guilty of 114 of 115 Premier League financial charges. Our full MUST report says the trust believes expulsion from the English football pyramid should be considered if the findings stand and City’s ownership remains unchanged.

City are expected to appeal, and the Premier League has not yet confirmed what punishment, if any, will follow. MUST stressed that its position is dependent on the outcome of that appeal.

Fernandes’ workload raises concern

Bruno Fernandes has started every Manchester United game this season and has accumulated 558 minutes, more than any other player in Michael Carrick’s squad. Our full Fernandes warning highlights the concern surrounding the captain after reports that he has been playing through discomfort for weeks.

Portugal confirmed that Fernandes had been dealing with pain for around three games. He was left out of Portugal’s win over Norway after playing 89 minutes against Wales, while Carrick has acknowledged how heavily United have relied on him.

United continue to monitor Fernandes

A separate update on Fernandes’ injury explains that United remain in contact with Portugal over his condition. The midfielder took several heavy blows during the Champions League win over Sabah and was seen limping after the game.

Fernandes remains with Portugal for the remainder of the international break, with United continuing to monitor his condition before he returns to club duty.

Konde joins from Liverpool

Manchester United have completed the signing of 16-year-old forward Isaac Konde from Liverpool. As reported in our full Konde story, the youngster turned down a fresh scholarship offer from Liverpool and will join Darren Fletcher’s Under-18s after the international break.

Konde featured regularly for Liverpool’s Under-18s towards the end of last season. He joins Karim Cassim and David Eze as another new addition to United’s academy setup.

Two City stars linked with United

Gabriel Agbonlahor believes United could target Gianluigi Donnarumma and Elliot Anderson if Manchester City suffer relegation following their financial case. In our full Manchester City transfer story, Agbonlahor suggested United could revisit their previous interest in Anderson and move for Donnarumma.

He believes the goalkeeper would strengthen United between the posts, while Anderson could potentially become available for a lower price if City were relegated.

Harry Amass faces an important period

Harry Amass could face an important period in determining his Manchester United future. Our full Amass story reports that the 19-year-old could be sold if he fails to prove himself this season.

The current injuries to Patrick Dorgu and Luke Shaw could give Amass an opportunity to gain more minutes, although Diogo Dalot has also been used at left-back. The report argues that Amass needs a proper run of matches before United make a decision.

Dorgu suffers hamstring injury

Patrick Dorgu has returned to Manchester after suffering a hamstring injury while playing for Denmark against Wales. Our full Dorgu injury report says the defender lasted only 30 minutes before being forced off.

United will assess the 21-year-old, with a scan required to determine the extent of the injury. The timing is a concern ahead of the October 10 meeting with Tottenham, while Dorgu also missed a significant period last season with a hamstring problem.
