Chido Obi joins Dutch side on loan from Man Utd

Manchester United striker Chido Obi is set to spend the rest of the season with Willem II after agreeing a loan move to the Dutch club.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the deal with his “here we go”, with Manchester United also authorising Obi’s medical. There is no option to buy included, meaning the 18-year-old will return to Old Trafford once the loan spell ends.

For Manchester United, the move is mainly about getting Obi playing regularly again.

Chido Obi gets chance to rebuild momentum

Chido Obi found opportunities hard to come by after breaking into the first-team under Ruben Amorim towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Last season, he made the bench only once. Most of his football came with the Under-21s, where he also featured during United’s run to the FA Youth Cup final.

There were still some encouraging signs. Obi scored 22 goals during the campaign, including four in one game against Leicester, and also struck four times in five FA Youth Cup appearances.

He also featured in United’s pre-season meeting with Rosenborg in Trondheim in July, but didn’t play in either of the club’s opening Premier League 2 wins this season.

That lack of regular action made a loan move sensible, and Willem II can now offer him a different environment.

Chido Obi already has a little first-team history with Manchester United. He made his senior debut during the 2024/25 season and became the club’s youngest-ever Premier League starter at 17 years and 156 days.

Now he heads to Netherlands for first team action. United would be hoping he returns with plenty of first team experience.
