Manchester United Transfers : Ins and outs

Manchester United have had a busy summer under Michael Carrick, with the squad seeing plenty of movement in both directions.

Andrey Santos was the first major arrival after Michael Carrick took charge, moving from Chelsea. Youri Tielemans followed from Aston Villa, while goalkeeper Karl Darlow joined after his Leeds contract expired. Carlos Baleba completed the midfield rebuild when he arrived from Brighton in the final week of August.

Manchester United have also added younger players. Tynan Thompson has joined from Tottenham Hotspur, while Kit Margetson arrived from Swansea City. Cristian Orozco also moved to Old Trafford from Fortaleza CEIF.

The spending has been heavily focused on midfield. Santos and Tielemans were joined by Baleba, giving Carrick three major additions in the middle of the park.

There has also been a considerable number of departures.

Rasmus Hojlund made his move to Napoli permanent, while Casemiro left for Inter Miami after his contract expired. Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Malachi Sharpe are among those who also departed with their contracts ending.

Several younger players have moved on permanently or gone out to gain regular football elsewhere. Toby Collyer joined West Bromwich Albion, while Louis Jackson and Tyler Fredricson also secured permanent moves.

Dan Gore is the latest youngster to leave temporarily, joining Luton Town on loan, following previous loan exits involving Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, Sekou Kone, Elyh Harrison, Solomon Honor and Jayce Fitzgerald.

For United’s younger players, the summer has been about finding the right next step. Several have been sent out on loan, while others have made permanent moves after struggling to establish themselves at Old Trafford.

With the midfield now largely rebuilt, the focus for Michael Carrick has shifted elsewhere. United still have work to do in other positions, but the summer has already brought a major overhaul.

The most important question now is whether these changes can make a difference on the pitch. Manchester United were in the market for a left back and a forward, but both positions seemingly haven’t been supported as the transfer window comes to an end.
