  • What happened at Los Blancos?
  • United are looking to gain a new midfielder

With Spanish giants Real Madrid currently in disarray, Manchester United are reportedly looking to capitalise on the situation as they bid to replace Casemiro with Aurelien Tchouameni.

In a story that has unfolded rapidly over the last 24 hours, Federico Valverde, Tchouameni, and the Real Madrid squad stunned the footballing world. Reports emerged claiming the two midfielders clashed following a fiery duel in training, an altercation that ultimately led to the Uruguayan being rushed to the hospital.

After flying into crunching tackles during training, tensions reportedly spilt into the dressing room, where a verbal barrage swiftly escalated into a physical confrontation, according to The Athletic.

During the altercation, Valverde allegedly slipped and struck his head on a dressing room table before medical staff rushed him to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a “cranioencephalic traumatism”—a severe injury caused by external mechanical force.

United now sense an opportunity to exploit the increasingly fractured atmosphere surrounding the situation, especially if Madrid softens their stance on Tchouameni’s valuation.

Manchester United to Capitalise?

According to French transfer journalist Sebastien Vidal, Manchester United want to take advantage of the turmoil unfolding in Madrid.

Real Madrid reportedly wanted a far steeper fee for the French midfielder, but the current fallout could pressure the Spanish giants into lowering their demands.

Ornstein reported that Madrid general manager Jose Angel Sanchez reacted furiously to Thursday’s incident, with both players now likely facing punishment just days before a decisive El Clasico clash against FC Barcelona—a fixture that could decide the La Liga title race if Madrid fail to win.

Is Tchouameni a Risk?

What already looked like a gamble, given that Madrid rarely sell elite players without reason, now carries even greater risk after the physical confrontation between the two midfielders.

For the first time in years, United finally looks emotionally aligned behind the scenes. No leaked team sheet, no fractured dressing-room cliques, no public disputes or internal hostility bubbling beneath the surface.

But one bad apple can still spoil the barrel. That does not automatically mean Tchouameni would disrupt the atmosphere at Old Trafford.

It does, however, introduce an undeniable risk; one United may still decide is worth taking.

With Casemiro already confirming his departure on 30 June when his contract expires—and Manuel Ugarte potentially following him through the revolving door if United secure a suitable buyer—the club desperately need a midfielder capable of shielding the defence whilst dictating the centre of the pitch.

Elliot Anderson originally stood as United’s preferred target, but reports now suggest the Englishman favours a move to Manchester City F.C. instead, forcing United back into the market for a commanding defensive midfielder.

Tchouameni has long looked like the complete package, and his performances consistently reinforce that reputation. But if the situation inside Madrid continues to sour, then Manchester United may suddenly find a rare opportunity opening in front of them.
